Initially founded in 1866 by Albert Graetz and his friend Emil Ehrich as “Lampen-Fabrik Ehrich & Graetz OHG” in Berlin, the company produced oil lamps.
All About Light.
In 1887, under Max Graetz, the eldest son of Albert Graetz, the company grew rapidly as one of the leading manufacturers of gas and oil lanterns in Europe and worldwide. GRAETZ became very popular for the invention of the PETROMAX lantern, still produced today.
Due to the difficult times of the First World War, the company was at risk of bankruptcy. But thanks to Max Graetz as a smart businessman, GRAETZ was saved and was able to recover.
Radio production was added in 1925 and became one of the main product lines. In the 1960s, GRAETZ successfully began manufacturing televisions.
